Help Committee Passes Public Health Bill To Treat Traumatic Brain Injury

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-WY, Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee (HELP Committee), has announced passage of The Keeping Seniors Safe from Falls and Reauthorization of the Traumatic Brain Injury Act, S.1531, an innovative bill designed to study the incidence and treatment of traumatic brain injury, and to expand research on approaches to fall prevention and treatment for Americas senior citizens. The bill passed by unanimous voice vote. Each year, approximately 1.4 million Americans sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI), causing significant and often lifelong disability and discomfort, Enzi said. This bill will shed new light on methods of preventing and treating TBI. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), of the 1.4 million Americans who sustain a TBI each year, around 50,000 die and another 80,000 to 90,000 experience long-term or life-long disabilities as a result....

SEA, brain injury group move to United Way building at Phila

The Society for Equal Access, I.L.C. and the Brain Injury Assn. of Ohio, housed within S.E.A., are the newest tenants of the United Way Community Services Building in New Philadelphia. The move followed a major renovation project designed to give S.E.A. additional office space. When the United Way purchased our building in the mid-80s, the intent was to provide cost-effective office space for area health and human service organizations, said United Way Executive Director Scott Robinson. This agreement with S.E.A. will enhance its ability to provide expanded services for the disabled. Its truly a win-win situation for the community. A five-week renovation project was completed in time for S.E.A. to be fully operational in its new location by Aug. 1. Report: VA needs to step up care for brain injuries

The Department of Veterans Affairs needs to do a better job in managing treatment for service members and veterans with brain injuries, especially for those facing long recoveries, according to a new report from the VA inspector general. The report, released Thursday, said the VA needs to improve how it manages care for those with long-term needs, especially helping family members. ....
