The cases, from which two resulted in deaths, happened in the provinces of Bengo, Benguela, Bié, Cabinda, Kwanza-Norte, Kwanza-Sul, Luanda, Huambo, Hula, Lunda-Norte, Malanje, Kuando Kubango, Namibe, Uge and Zaire. In this period, the provinces with more cases were Namibe (10), Kwanza-Sul and Bengo, with seven cases each, and Kuando Kubango, with five. Zaire, Huambo, Malanje, Lunda-Norte, Cabinda and Bié did not register any cases during the referred period. The communiqué reports cases detected since February 13, the stage of the outbreak, until September 27 and informs that 54.647 patients and 2.223 deaths have been registered.... | |

"We're concerned because diarrhoeal diseases are a major killer of children," Edward Carwardine, UNICEF senior communications officer, said. "Forty percent of the collected stool specimens tested positive for cholera - all the more reason to accelerate our response. "South Darfur has been a particular cause of concern, with five new suspected cases reported on 10 August and 13 on 11 August," he added. Forest Development and Protection senior expert with the bureau, Tsegaye Fikadu, said university and college students who are on vacation, teachers, farmers and inhabitants of rural and urban areas are taking part in the transplantation of the tree seedlings. The transplantation in SNNPS has been carried out in 13 zones and eight special woredas since last April, according to the State Agriculture and Rural Development Bureau.... | |
