Caldwell, 31, is the boats drummer. Its her duty to drum a beat that will act as an auditory command that tells her team when and how fast to paddle. The faster she beats her drum, the faster her team paddles. The pre-race jitters arent affecting hershe doesnt have time. Instead, she intently focuses her eyes toward shore where an interpreter stands ready to give the signal. While she is the boats drummer, Caldwell cant hear a thing. The starting horn blows and the boats paddle neck-and-neck through the choppy waters. Caldwell bangs her drum every time a lead rower dips his paddle into the water.... | |
