An Anglicare report released yesterday found many Tasmanians living with disabilities are going without food and other essentials like heating to cover basic costs and buy equipment like electric wheelchairs. The chief executive of the Industry Association for Disability Services, Ken Baker, says an extra payment should be offered to ensure no disabled people are living in poverty. "There ought to be a supplement paid to people to help them pay for pharmaceuticals, the aids and the home adjustments they may need," he said. Kendra Griffith, Reporting Statistics on the number of wheelchair-bound persons in Belize are hard to come by, but estimates are that the mobility of hundreds are impeded by a lack of resources. Today that demand was at least partially met, courtesy of the Wheelchair Foundation and the students of CalPoly San Luis Obispo in California. We saw there is a need; the humanity index showed that Belizean people could use help.
