DAVIE, Fla. - Miami Dolphins guard Damion McIntosh says it's counterproductive to become angry, because for an offensive lineman, fiery emotions only make blocking more difficult. And the Dolphins are having enough trouble already.Breakdowns up front helped sabotage Miami's bid for a fast start this season. Instead the Dolphins are 1-3 going into Sunday's game at AFC East leader New England, and quarterback Daunte Culpepper is on pace to set an NFL record for most times sacked.Beleaguered by blitzers on Sunday and by critics all week, the five men up front must keep cool, McIntosh said."It's best to stay focused and stay as a tight-knit group," he said Wednesday. "What we do affects everybody else. If we're focused on what we need to do and not being rah-rah type of people, we're able to go out and execute better."Unless they improve, New England's formidable front four is in for a feast....

Saints Ninkovich learning to control emotions

JACKSON, Miss. — In only his second NFL preseason game Monday night, New Orleans Saints fifth-round draft pick Rob Ninkovich produced a line on the stats sheet that would have made any defensive end proud. It included a team-high eight total tackles, two sacks, one quarterback hurry and two forced fumbles in roughly two quarters of work. Yet, the number that mattered most to Saints coach Sean Payton was 15 — the number of yards Ninkovich was penalized for spinning Dallas Cowboys running back Julius Jones to the turf after the whistle blew on a play in the first quarter of the Saints’ 30-7 loss. Ninkovich broke into the Cowboys backfield and stopped Jones for a 3-yard loss. But he held Jones up and twirled him to the ground, and the 15-yard personal-foul penalty turned a third-and-8 play into a first down at the Saints’ 17....

Experts cite child abuse in killer's past to court

ST. AUGUSTINE Convicted killer Troy Victorino was physically and sexually abused as a child, tried to kill himself several times, and lacks the ability to control his emotions and anger, two mental health experts testified Friday in the sentencing phase of his murder trial. Victorino's attorneys ended their case by putting his mother, Sharon Victorino, on the stand. She said she loves her oldest son, but knows he is responsible for his actions. She blamed herself and the judicial system for his life of crime. ....
