| Hikers finds human bones near airport | | Posted Thursday, October 19, 2006 11:01:03 AM by Blog57 Team | | REDLANDS - A hiker reported finding human bones in the orange grove area east of the Redlands Municipal Airport Monday. The discovery was announced a day before the Redlands Police Department identified the body found near Ford Street on Aug. 30. According to the Sheriff's Homicide Detail, deputies from the Yucaipa Sheriff's station arrived at the orange groves Monday and confirmed the bones found were human. The cause of death and identification of the remains are under investigation. Though police are still searching for a suspect in connection with the Ford Street homicide, the body has been positively identified as a missing woman from Hesperia. According to police spokesman Carl Baker, forensic scientists from Human Identification Technologies Inc., a private forensic DNA testing laboratory in Redlands, as well as the San Bernardino County Sheriff's DNA laboratory separately confirmed the identity of 53-year-old Linda Odom, a Hesperia woman who was reported missing by family on May 20.... | |

The new discovery is part of an investigation where earlier this week, a Jet Skier, found a steel drum containing human bones. It took the divers less than an hour to find more bones and other possible evidence. With this new evidence, investigators believe they could get closer to identifying the body. Divers began handing possible evidence to investigators who collected the items and put them into plastic bags. They concentrated their search in an area about 20 square feet just off the shore of Council Creek South subdivision. That's near where that Jet Skier found the rusted 55-gallon drum with remains. Those items will be added to the initial remains for DNA testing.... | |

The bones, apparently more than a century old, were unearthed over the weekend at Sturges Park. Construction workers found the bones in the Mill Plain Road park Saturday afternoon. Also found was what appeared to be a casket in advanced stages of decomposition. State Archaeologist Nicholas Bellantoni has been notified and is expected to come to the site today. .... | |

Merle Ziegler, 53, of 107 3rd St. South, was charged with one count of Murder. Detectives say Ziegler fatally shot her live-in boyfriend, Frank Reposh, 41, in late October of last year at the couple's residence at 7818 40th Ave. Dr. W., Bradenton. The investigation began Wednesday morning with the discovery of what appeared to be human bones in the 3600 block of Palma Sola Blvd. W., Bradenton.
