| Early menopause more common among twins | | Posted Saturday, October 28, 2006 11:04:29 AM by Blog57 Team | | Twin sisters are more likely than other women to have a premature menopause, scientists said on Tuesday. Menopause usually occurs around the age of 50. But early menopause, or premature ovarian failure (POF), can occur at a younger age. In about one woman in a hundred it happens before the age of 40. "There appears to be generally a higher probability of premature ovarian failure in twins, both identical and non-identical," said Dr. Roger Gosden of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York. He and his team, who studied more than 800 pairs of twins in Australia and Britain, found POF at the age of 40 and 45 was three to five times more common in twins than in other women. The findings, which are reported in the journal Human Reproduction, were based on an analysis of data on 428 twin pairs in Australia, 404 sets of twins in Britain and information on 3,483 Dutch women who acted as a control group.... | |

| | | 28 Cues That Menopause Is on Its Way | | Posted Friday, August 18, 2006 2:57:26 PM by Blog57 Team | | The big question many women ask about menopause is, "When?" Ask your grandmother when she had hers. Most likely, your age of menopause will be close. Genetics has a lot to do with the age "when" menopause hits. Many women start experiencing symptoms of hormone imbalance anywhere from their early 30s to their late 40s. Such signals are triggered by different hormonal changes as you approach the midlife phase.... | |

| | | Musical 'Menopause' has plenty to to laugh about | | Posted Monday, July 17, 2006 5:02:00 AM by Blog57 Team | | Sisterhood through song, dance and comedy is the prescribed remedy for women who are approaching, in the middle of or thankfully past one of nature's obstacle courses, the midlife crisis known for generations only as a whispered word — menopause. "Menopause: The Musical," an off-Broadway hit that has seen productions worldwide, has finally found a Connecticut berth at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven. A perfect entertainment for a girls night out, the show rewrites the lyrics from popular songs from the 1960s and '70s to make its point: No one should suffer alone — or quietly. Four versatile, very funny ladies make up the cast, with each assuming one of the broad persona that pretty well divides the female kingdom: Power Lady (Avery Powers), Iowa Housewife (Adrienne Cote), Earth Mother (Dee Etta Rowe), and Soap Star (Kathy St.... | |
