| New teeth find could reveal how human ancestors became extinct | | Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 3:13:29 AM by Blog57 Team | | An early ancestor of human beings, who lived 1.8 million years ago, were able to make use of their teeth to eat, may be as effectively as a modern day man, according to a new study, which also questions an existing theory of how they were wiped out. The ancestors, the bipedal hominid Paranthropus robustus, lived in an area roughly what is South Africa now, along with the direct ancestors of modern humans and animals like hyenas and cats. Scientists have believed that the species became extinct because they could feed only on very limited diet, while our direct ancestors could bank on a diverse menu. However, a team of scientists have found four teeth from the Swartkrans excavation site in South Africa, which has given clear indication that these species too had a more varied diet that earlier thought.... | |

| | | Trickster Pirate | | Posted Sunday, July 02, 2006 2:58:02 PM by Blog57 Team | | It was easy to picture Johnny Depp as a pirate when he turned up recently tanned and tattooed, wearing a goatee, mustache and jewel-encrusted teeth. Jack Sparrow character for two "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels. "I kind of like everything about playing Jack Sparrow," Depp said. "He's good fun. You take the solid bones of that structure and add stuff and try things, just to see what you can get away with." Depp's daft portrayal of the 18th century swashbuckler, modeled on the Rolling Stones' swaggering guitarist Keith Richards, earned him an Oscar nomination and helped make "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" a surprise hit three summers ago.... | |
